AMY SWANSON—BIO
The pursuit of woodfire is a very big part why I feel at home
in Oregon. I moved west to Portland after earning a degree in
studio art from the University of Minnesota Duluth. The
opportunities to create with clay and fire came to pass with
my introduction to the
Jewel Creek anagama and woodfiring.
The process itself is an inspiration to those of us who
love to make the alchemy happen. I feel lucky to live
this kind of life, it is unique and I hope it shows in
the pieces.
My work has been shown around the country in juried
exhibitions. I demonstrate my handbuilding techniques at
Georgies Ceramic and Clay, the
Oregon Potters Association's annual
Ceramic Showcase, and
Art in the Pearl, an annual outdoor
art gala downtown. I am represented by the
9th Street Gallery in Newport,
Oregon.
My studio space is located in Portland Oregon. My work is in
the permanent collection of the
Tweed Museum of Art, Duluth,
Minnesota and I am represented by the 9th Street Gallery
in Newport, Oregon. I live with my partner Roman and
Lucy the cat.
